Calimist wines are the creation of a few experienced and well connected industry veterans with the goal of offering ultra premium quality wines at an affordable price. Working with carefully selected organically grown sites from California’s North Coast, the intent is to produce authentic, honest expressions of this rugged, beautiful landscape we call home. From the majestic mountains through ancient redwoods down to the rocky coastline, the diverse terroirs of Northern California are the inspiration here. Natural production methods are employed, including native yeast fermentations without any additions other than a small amount of sulfur at bottling. Calimist wines are hand crafted to present a classic Old World sensibility coupled with a sundrenched New World twist. We are very excited to share these inaugural releases with you.
Calimist Sauvignon Blanc Mendocino County 2022 (Organic)
CCOF certified organic vineyards in Mendocino County. Small lot fermentation with native yeast, 60% in stainless steel and 40% in neutral oak barrels. Aging in neutral French oak for 5 months and Bottled March 2023. Fragrant elderflower, bay laurel, and ocean spray lead to a palate of zesty meyer lemon, delicate herbs, and tangy nectarine. Light bodied, focused, and energetic with mouthwatering acidity. A crisp, racy, refreshing style. 12.5% abv.
Calimist Red Wine Sonoma County 2021 (Organic)
Organically farmed vineyards in Sonoma and Mendocino counties. 65% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc. Small lot fermentation with native yeast and aging for 18 months in one and two yearFrench oak barrels. Bottled unfined and unfiltered March 2023. Mountain herbs, fresh tobacco, and madrone wood lead to a palate of spicy red fruits, dark chocolate, and wild mushrooms. Medium bodied, supple, and eminently drinkable. A classic Claret style. 13.5% abv.
